Women Who Turn Moments Into Movements: Javeriah Irshad and the Love That Raises Maryam
“I don’t want her to grow up believing mothers disappear into motherhood. I want her to see, that women can nurture others while still nurturing their own minds and passions."
Some people build careers.
Some build homes.
But women? Women quietly build entire worlds inside another human being.
For this Women’s Month, we are sitting with a story that does not need to be loud to be powerful. A story of a mother and her daughter. Of love that is steady. Of love that is warm. Of love that grows in little moments no one talks about.
This is Javeriah Irshad.
And this is the story of how she is raising her world, her love, her daughter, her Maryam.
Raising Her, Not Defining Her
“Raising a daughter feels like walking a delicate line between protection and permission,” Javeriah says.
She knows the world Maryam is growing into. The quiet expectations already waiting to close around her.
“How polite she should be. How much she should tolerate. How small she should remain to be accepted.”
But Javeriah is not raising her daughter to fit into those expectations. She is raising her to see beyond them.
“I want her to understand the world as it is, but never believe that it defines her worth or her limits.”
And then she says something that stays with you.
“My greatest responsibility is making sure she never mistakes obedience for value… or silence for strength.”
There are beliefs she is gently unlearning too.
“I want to challenge the idea that a good woman is one who endlessly endures.”
Because she knows what that kind of strength can cost.
“I don’t want resilience to mean suffering quietly.”
Instead, she is raising Maryam with a different truth.
“That saying no is not cruelty. Choosing yourself is not selfishness. Needing rest or help does not make you weak.”
And most importantly.
“She does not have to earn love through sacrifice.”
The Quiet Moments That Shape Her
Motherhood, Javeriah tells us, is not just a space where you give and you give.
It is something that changes you.
There are nights when Maryam wakes up crying, still half asleep, reaching only for her.
“I hold her while exhausted beyond words,” she says. “Fasting, sleep deprived, running on nothing.”
And yet, something softens.
“Something inside me softens instantly.”
It is in those quiet, unseen moments that she understands something deeper.
“She is teaching me patience, surrender, and unconditional love in ways no life experience ever could.”
“She is reshaping my heart daily. Often without even knowing it.”
And in raising her daughter, she finds herself changing too.
“I notice how I speak about my body, how I react to stress, how I allow people to treat me,” she says.
Because she knows Maryam is watching. Even before she understands.
And so, slowly, she becomes something more.
“The woman I once needed growing up.”
The World She Feels Her Daughter Deserves
There is a future Javeriah holds quietly in her heart.
“I hope she walks into a world where safety is ordinary for women,” she says.
Where ambition is encouraged.
Where kindness is not mistaken for weakness.
“A world where she does not have to fight simply to exist freely.”
She wants Maryam to grow up in a home where conversations are never silenced.
“I want her to talk openly about her emotions without being told she is dramatic,” she says.
To speak about mental health, boundaries, ambition, even doubt.
Without shame.
“I want her to feel safe asking difficult questions. Even questioning me someday.”
Because in her home, curiosity is not disobedience.
It is trust.
And beyond motherhood, she holds onto something just as important.
“I want her to see me reading, creating, building ideas,” she says.
“I don’t want her to grow up believing mothers disappear into motherhood.”
She wants her daughter to know that women can nurture others while still nurturing themselves.
That they do not have to disappear to be loved.
A Letter, From a Mother to Her Daughter
My love,
If you are reading this someday, as a grown woman, I hope you know something.
Long before you understood the world, you changed mine completely.
There were days I was exhausted, overwhelmed, unsure if I was doing motherhood right.
But never, not once, did I doubt loving you.
You were never a burden. Not on the sleepless nights. Not in the hardest moments.
You were, and always will be, my greatest blessing and my greatest teacher.
You are allowed to make mistakes. Big ones. Messy ones.
You are allowed to change your mind. To start again.
I will never measure your worth by your success or your failures.
And no matter how far you go, remember this.
You will always have a place to return to.
If the world feels too loud, if people disappoint you, if you forget who you are, come back to me.
I will be your safe place.
The arms that catch you.
The voice that reminds you.
You never have to earn my love.
You never have to be perfect for me.
You only ever have to be yourself.
And if you ever feel lost, remember this.
You were loved, fiercely, from the very beginning.
And that love will follow you, wherever you go.
Always your mother.
Always your home. 🤍
If Javeriah were to leave every daughter with one takeaway it would be that,
"You are allowed to grow at your own pace. You can respect your culture while still discovering who you are within it. Your voice matters, even when it trembles. And becoming yourself is not betrayal; it is courage."
Motherhood as transformation: growing alongside your child, not losing yourself
Raising daughters to value voice, boundaries, and self-worth over silent endurance
Redefining strength as balance between nurturing others and nurturing yourself
