When I think of serenity and peace, the first place that comes to mind is the coast. The smell of salty air, the sound of waves crashing, and the feeling of sand beneath my feet are all beacons to me, calling me me to leave the chaos and stress behind me and escape to a weekend by the sea. Unfortunately that isn't always possible, but what is feasible, is creating a space that embodies the serenity of the ocean, allowing you to experience the benefits of the living a coastal life right where you are.
Coastal Serenity is More than A "Beachy" Bedroom
Capturing the serene energy of coastal life in a bedroom is not done by casually incorporating sea shells, picture's of the beach, and shades of blue and white. While these do help to add to the aesthetic of such bedroom, these are not what are in mind when trying to capture the serene feel of being by the water. We will be diving in deeper to the tools and mindset factors needed and achieving this feeling, so that you can create the perfect atmosphere for your own space.

A firm foundation makes way for success, and this stands true for our room makeover. We need a clean and organized foundation to begin, one that allows your mind to rest instead of being distracted by any clutter or stimulation. I have already said the word serene quite a few times, and I will keep using it, because the idea of building our serene coastal room, is to create a space that allows a peaceful and tranquil mind to flourish.

2. Fresh Linens
When thinking of life by the coast, stiff, uncomfortable, and constricting are not terms that usually come to mind. On the contrary words such as light, airy, breathable are usually terms associated when describing the feeling you are left with by the coast. Whether it is wearing two piece linen sets, long sun dresses, and wide rim hats, or sleeping under cool cotton and linen bedding, we want to incorporate as much breathable fabric as possible in our serene coastal inspired bedroom.

With a firm foundation, we can incorporate some colour now! We don't need too much, but colour add life and joy to a previously plain room. However, we want to be strategic in creating a palate for our space. To complement our coastal bedroom, we are going to seek organic natural hues, ones that can be found in nature. Sea blues, whites and tans from the sandy beaches, green from the trees, and pops of orange and pink from the seashells washed up on the beach.

With all of the changes made to our bedroom environments, we are left with the finishing touch...our outfits. To truly embody the coastal serenity aesthetic, one should dress the part. Flowy, breathable materials and white linens are a wonderful start. Two-piece sets and baggy button downs are also wonderful staples to fill your wardrobe with. Ideally, we are seeking minimal basics, ones that can be mixed and matched for an easy, but stylish ensemble.

Achieving the serene feeling of your coastal bedroom is not only incorporating white linens, tropical plants, and touches of blue, it is how you chose to then use the space. Finding ways to incorporate the serene feeling through yoga, journaling, reading, music, or whatever else is calming to you will guarantee that your bedroom is the coastal sanctuary you intended it to be.
